Description

Contumyces rosellus (M.M. Moser) Redhead, Moncalvo, Vilgalys & Lutzoni

Image location: Fort Ord National Monument, Seaside, Monterey Co., California, USA

These were growing on the ground in fairly large numbers near Live Oak and manzanita.

They are rather small( caps up to about 2.1 cm across) and relatively tough.
The spores were white, not amyloid, ~pip-shaped and measured about 7.1-9.0 X 5.0-5.5 microns.
Photos of gill edge also show what could be cheilocystidia.
