English: Controlled heather burning on Bord Hill Moorland Pic taken from the A628, note the man with the fire beater near centre. Controlled heather burning is carried out to promote new growth for grouse to feed on. The moorland can look like a patch work quilt because the heather is allowed to grow to different lengths to accommodate the various stages of grouse rearing. |
