Quite a different set of conditions prevail in the numerousswamps, shallow ponds and tundras which were formerlycommon. Here also the deposit of ash has been increased bysecondary accumulations, in this case brought down by thestreams. There is no tendency for this ash to blow aboutfor it is kept constantly soaked.
