Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Contorted drift Many people enjoy the clifftop views offered by the Norfolk Coast Path/Peddars Way, up on the headland, skirting the cliffs seen here. The cliffs are steep, unstable and dangerous, there is no access path leading onto the beach, and walking on the shingle is difficult. The cliffs between Weybourne and Sheringham display sections of glacial sediments known as the Contorted Drift. The so-called Wroxham crag, a mixture of sand, clay, silts and stones, is resting on a white base of chalk. The view is west towards Weybourne Hope. Signs of erosion are evident all along this section of coast; here the cliffs are being undermined by wave action, with the chalk base crumbling and the softer layers above toppling onto the shingle beach in large chunks. Up to 2.5 metres (in some areas 5 metres) of headland are lost every year.
