Title
English: Construction of USS Nebraska's main deck at Moran Brothers shipyard, Seattle, 1904
Description
English: In 1901, the Moran Brothers Company shipyard of Seattle won the bid to build one of three battleships for the U. S. Navy. Construction of the ship, named Nebraska, began on July 4, 1902 and the ship was launched on October 7, 1904. Over 1,000 workers helped build the Nebraska, a Virginia-class pre-dreadnought battleship with a beam of 76 feet and a length of 441 feet.

This image shows a crane lifting a section of the main deck into place on the USS Nebraska. Several men can be seen at work on various parts of the ship. The ship is no longer under scaffolding so this photo was likely taken in the summer of 1904, near completion of construction at the shipyard, located at the foot of South Charles Street south of Pioneer Square.
