An artistic theatre occupies a large por-tion of the building, the rest being planned for stores,offices and Ining quarters. In the basement, in ad-dition to the boiler room and other mechanical spaces,is a restaurant, together with accommodation forother places of amusement. The ground floor isdevoted to stores on the two main fronts as well asentrances to the theatre. The second and third CONSTRUCTION floors are arranged for commercial sample rooms forwholesalers and jobbers, while the fourth and fifthfloors are planned in two and three-room living suites.The new Hudsons Bay Store building stands sixstories above the street and one below. Creamglazed terra cotta decorates the entire frontage, ex-cepting a narrow granite base running beneath thefirst story show windows. On the street facadesthe window frames of first story are topper, the tworemaining facades facing the lanes having steel sash.Three main, one employee and an emergency exitconstitute the entrances to the main floor. The vesti-bules have marble mosaic flooring, all other parts ofthe building being fini.shed with wood floors. The walls and ceiling of the main floor are of plasterpainted an appropriate shade, while the trim andfittings are of mahogany. The elevator system consists of four passengerwith ample provision made for two more; twoplunger from first story to basement only; threefreight which run to a freight room located on allfloors, and one for the employees.
