Français : Pour 4 crypto-monnaies PoW dont la capitalisation boursière (barre grise) est évaluée à au moins 1 milliard USD, représentation des plages de leur consommation d'énergie respective (en bleu).
Important : l'axe de droite est à échelle logarithmique ; il représente les consommations annuelles en TWh. L'axe de gauche représente la capitalisation sur les marchés, en valeur (en milliards d'USdollars) ; les données proviennent de Coinmarketcap (2020) et Coinswitch (2019), extraites le le 2020-02-05. Le Bitcoin apparait comme étant la cryptomonnaie très largement la plus consommatrice d'électricité pour son fonctionnement. Les auteurs notent que "la consommation d'énergie attendue pour ces 5 crypto-monnaies est fortement corrélée à leur capitalisation boursière, ce qui est logique puisque des paramètres, tels que la récompense de bloc par temps, sont comparables entre les crypto-monnaies et les frais de transaction totaux sont généralement faibles par rapport aux récompenses de bloc."
