Summary
[edit]DescriptionConsole 02 (IMG 2155).jpg |
English: Console 2. Centaur and bird.
It is the second console counting counter-clockwise from the east portal. Christine Smith. The Pisa Baptistery (Garland Press, 1978), p. 162, fig. 154: Console 2 represents a centaur at left and a large bird grasping and pecking a smaller one at right. Foliage appears in the empty spaces behind and above the centaur and birds. Not only does the foliage serve to fill up space, but also provides a quasi-setting for the centaur and birds. The human part of the centaur is so like that of the siren that these must be by the same hand. |
