Summary
[edit]DescriptionConnel Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1275355.jpg |
English: Connel Bridge Originally built in 1901 and called Connel Ferry Bridge, this carried the railway over the narrows of Loch Etive on its way to Ballachulish. In 1914 a road surface was laid alongside the rails, and the bridge was also used by road traffic. I recall as a child being intrigued at the idea that the traffic lights at either end controlled not just the cars crossing over, but also the trains. However the line was closed in 1966, and since then the bridge carries only road traffic. |
