Title |
Conical Weight |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete lead weight. A crudely formed conical lead weight. Oval in cross section and tapering to a rounded top. There is a vertical ridge at one side which extends to about halfway up where there is a patch of iron corrosion. The top is slightly bent over to the same side. At the top is a rectangular hole which does not extend to the base. On the underside at the base is an incised V and a row of rectangular indentations at one edge. It is possible the iron corrosion is what remains of a wire to suspend the weight in use. Date: Medieval to Post Medieval - c. 1200 - 1800 |
