| Description |
English: This is a visual depiction of how light detection and ranging (LiDAR) works. A sensor records the amount of time it takes for a light signal to travel to the target and back. This time is then multiplied by the speed of light, giving the round trip distance, then divided by two to give the one-way distance. |
