Oeuvre de Sophie Taeuber-Arp (Davos, 1889 - Zurich, 1943) 1927-1928 Re-création par Jean Arp d'une oeuvre de Sophie Taeuber-Arp d'après un dessin original Carton peint sur Pavatex Don de Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach, 1970 Oeuvre de la collection du Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Strasbourg C'est le couple d'artistes Hans Jean Arp et Sophie Taeuber-Arp qui s'est associé en septembre 1926 à Théo Van Doesburg, peintre, théoricien et architecte hollandais, proche de Mondrian, pour répondre à la commande des frères Horn d'aménagement et de décoration des salles de l'Aubette, dans l'aile d'une ancienne caserne située place Kléber. Théo van Doesburg avait fondé en 1917 avec Bart van der Leck et Piet Mondrian, la revue De Stijl qui devint le nom de leur mouvement artistique, appelé aussi Néo-plasticisme. Mais en 1926, Théo van Doesburg avait publié un nouveau manifeste "le manifeste élémentariste" qui rompait avec la verticalité absolue du néo-plasticisme, ce qu'on peut observer à l'Aubette. Les 3 artistes se sont répartis le travail de décoration des espaces appartenant aux quatre niveaux occupés par l'Aubette, en plein coeur de Strasbourg. Les salles ont été réaménagées dix ans plus tard et les décors d'origine ont été partiellement détruits. Les décors de 1928 de quatre salles du premier étage et de l'escalier ont été restitués, avec l'aide d'un comité scientifique international, par les musées de la ville de Strasbourg en raison de l'importance de ces réalisations pour l'histoire de l'art moderne. www.musees.strasbourg.eu/index.php?page=musee-aubette |
