Maclean: created 3 September 1631, or 13 February 1632; sealed 12 January 1632.[1]

  • II. 1649. Sir Hector Maclean, Baronet, of Morven aforesaid, 1st son and heir, born about 1625; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 18 April 1649; raised 700 men of his clan for the Royal cause, with whom he was defeated and slain at the Battle of Inverkeithing in 1651. He died unmarked [grave].
  • IV. 1674. Sir John Maclean, Baronet, of Morven aforesaid, only surviving son and heir; succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1674; fought (with his clan) on behalf of the House of Stuart, at the battle of Killiecrankie (1689), and at that of Sheriffmuir in the rising of 1715. He married in or before 1704, Mary, daughter of Sir Aeneas MacPherson of Invereshie. She died before him. He died in or before 1719. Administration of the goods of an intestate on 7 October 1719, as “of Gordon Castle, Scotland,” granted to a creditor.
  • V. 1719. Sir Hector Maclean, Baronet, of Morven aforesaid, only s. and h.; b. about 1704; suc. to the Baronetcy in or before 1719. He was arrested in Edinburgh in 1745 on suspicion of treason and imprisoned two years in London. He died unmarked at Paris, January or February 1751, aged 47, when the issue male of the grantee became extinct.[2]
  • VI. 1751. Sir Allan Maclean, Baronet, of Brolas in Mull, 3rd cousin and heir male, being only surviving s. and h. of Donald MACLEAN, of Brolas aforesaid, by Isabella, da. of Allan MACLEAN, of Ardgour, which Donald (who d. 1750) was s. and h, of Lauchlan MACLEAN, of Brolas, by Isabella, da. of Hector MACLEAN, of Torloish, which Laughlan (b. 1650; M.P. [S.] for Argyleshire, 1685-86, who d. 1687), was s. and h of Donald MACLEAN, also of Brolas, who was the younger brother (of the half blood) to the 1st Baronet, being son of Hector Og MAclean above named, by his 2nd wife, Isabella, daughter of Sir Archibald Acheson. He succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1781; was sometime Captain in the Dutch service, but afterwards served in the American war, and was finally Major in the 119th regiment. He married Una, daughter of Hector MACLEAN, of Coll. He died decessit sine prole 10 December 1783. Administration of the goods of an intestate in March and August 1798.
  • VII. 1783. Sir Hector Maclean, Baronet, 2d cousin and heir male, being son and heir of Donald MACLEAN, Collector of Customs at Montego Bay, Jamaica, by his 1st wife, Mary, daughter of John Dickson, of Glasgow, which Donald, was s. of John MACLEAN,(a) by Florence, da. of (—) MACLEAN, the said John being s. of Hector Og MACLEAN, yr. br. of Lauchlan MACLEAN, of Brolas, above mentioned, the grandfather of the 6th Baronet. He was an officer in the army; succeeded to the Baronetcy 10 December 1783. He died decessit sine prole, probably unmarked grave, 2 November 1818, at Hatfield, County York.
  • VIII. 1818. Sir Fitzroy Jeffreys Grafton Maclean, Baronet, br. of the half blood and h., being s. of Donald MACLEAN above named by his 2d wife, Margaret, da, of James WALL, of Clonea Castle, co. Waterford; entered the army 1787; served in the West Indies at the capture of Tobago, the attack on Martinique, Guadaloupe, etc., as also at the capture (1808) of the islands of St. Thomas and St. John, of which he was made Governor in 1808; became a full General in 1837 and Col. of the 54th Foot in 1841. He suc. to the Baronetcy 2 Nov. 1818. He m. firstly, Elizabeth, widow of John Bishop, of Barbadoes, only child of Charles KIDD. She d. 1832. He m. secondly, 17 Sept. 1838, Frances, widow of Henry CAMPION, of Malling Deanery, co. Sussex, 3d da. of the Rev. Henry WATKINs, of Conisbrough. She d. 12 June 1843. Administration of the goods of an intestate in June 1843. He died 5 July 1847, at 53 Cadogan Place, Pimlico. Will proved August 1847.

  1. Milne's list for the date of sealing. The date of creation is given in Laing's List as 3 September 1631, but in Douglas's Baronage [S.] as 13 Feb. 1632, it being there added that the charter, one to heirs male whatsoever, was in the public archives.
  2. Macfarlane's Genealogical Collections. In Douglas's Baronage he is said to have died at Rome, in October 1750.
