Summary
[edit]DescriptionCompact Stratum 1 NTP time server hardware, October 2020.jpg |
English: Image shows a compact NTP time server consisting of an Ozzmaker BerryGPS-IMU v3 board mounted onto a Raspbery Pi Zero W. A yellow wire connects a GPIO pin to the BerryGPS-IMU board's "T_PULSE" connection in order to provide the Pi with a PPS signal generated from the board's uBlox GPS receiver module. The PPS signal combined with NMEA data transmitted through other GPIO pins enables NTP software (e.g. chrony) running on the Pi to synchronize its system clock to GPS satellite clocks. In NTP terms, since GPS satellites are stratum 0 time servers, the assembly is therefore a stratum 1 time server.
Not shown is the GPS antenna (only the U.FL connector cable is shown). The three larger cables running off-frame connect to (from left to right) a mini HDMI connector, a micro B USB connector (for data), and another micro B USB connector (for 5 volt power).
