Description

A nice Common toad from Falkirk, 14/08/12.

We were walking along a cycle track around 11pm en route to survey a pond for newt larvae by torchlight when we stumbled upon this rather obliging little fellow out getting some warmth from the stones and hunting the abundant slugs and snails too, no doubt. Unlike most toads we've stumbled upon during these surveys, this little guy didn't make any breaks for freedom - he just sat there exactly like this - indeed when my rather bulky head torch popped off my rather more bulky head and landed on this chap's arse - he didn't even toddle off, did breathe a little faster though!

I snapped a few shots as did Chris and we wandered over to our pond - half an hour later he was still sitting in this exact spot, crazy wee fella!
