Summary
[edit]DescriptionCommonseal.jpg |
English: The conventual seal of Netley Abbey, depicting an abbot with crozier and four of his monks. The Latin inscription reads "S' Commune Abbis Loci Sci Edwardi de Lettelye": "The Common Seal of the Abbey of St. Edwardstowe, at Letley." St. Edwardstowe and Letley are alternative mediaeval names for the abbey. This seal was used by the monks to authenticate all official acts and legal documents of the abbey. This example comes from a deed of 1330. |
