Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Common toadflax (Linaria vulgaris) Visited by a bee. One of three species of toadflax native to Great Britain, the plant was considered useless and fit only for toads. The unusual shape of its flowers has resulted in a variety of folk-names such as lion's mouth, weasel's snout, pig's chops and squeeze jaw: the flower opens on squeezing its sides. Only heavy insects such as bees can depress the flower to gain access to the tube and whilst the bee seeks the nectar at the tip of the flower's spur, pollen is exchanged between the insect's body, the stamens and the stigma. Toadflax is sometimes cultivated for cut flowers. For a wider view of the location see > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/982996.
