Nov. 28, 2017; FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D and center Director Jeffrey E. Shuren, M.D tour labs at the agency's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) in Silver Spring, MD. Lasers are being increasingly used in many aspects of modern medicine. OSEL plays a key role in ensuring that they are effective while ensuring the safety of the public. Dr. Ilko Ilev (right), a world leader in assessing the safety of lasers and other optical equipment, shows Commissioner Gottlieb some of the techniques used to minimize the potential risks associated with lasers.
