Nov. 28, 2017; FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D and center Director Jeffrey E. Shuren, M.D tour labs at the agency's Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) in Silver Spring, MD. Dr. Greg Clement (left) shows Commissioner Gottlieb how high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) can be used to treat cancers and other tissue problems. The lab is continuing to study uses for this technology, including using both experimental and computer modeling to accurately estimate dosage to patients and ensuring the targeting accuracy of systems to assure patient safety.
