Description
English: A plaque at 25 Avenue de la Roseraie in the Champel quarter of Geneva commemorating that Polish-British writer Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) stayed in the building four times (1891, 1894, 1895, 1907) for spa treatments. The inscription "GENAVA DESPECTA SUSCIPIENS" ("Geneva is scorned giving shelter") is considered a reply to Conrad's critical views of the Swiss city.
Deutsch: Eine Gedenktafel an der 25 Avenue de la Roseraie im Genfer Stadtteil Champel zu Ehren des polnisch-britischen Schriftstellers Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), der dort viermal (1891, 1894, 1895 und 1907) zu Thermalbad-Kurbehandlungen weilte. Die Inschrift "GENAVA DESPECTA SUSCIPIENS" ("Genf gewährt Zuflucht und wird geschmäht) gilt als Replik auf Conrads kritische Darstellung der Stadt.
Français : plaque au 25 avenue de la Roseraie dans le quartier de Champel à Genève en l'honneur de l'écrivain polono-britannique Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), qui y séjourna quatre fois (1891, 1894, 1895 et 1907) pour des cures thermales.
