English: "Photograph of construction and demolition at the intersection of Broad and High Streets. The Deshler Block is being taken down to be replaced by the Deshler Hotel. At the same time it looks like new tracks for the Columbus Railway, Power & Light Company are being laid in North High Street. A center cab motor is seen on the far left. The view is looking north up North High Street. The Chittenden Hotel can be seen in the distance. Public transportation began in Columbus in 1863 with the introduction of horse drawn cars on North High Street. The horse cars were starting to be replaced by electric cars in the late 1880s. A short experimental electric rail line was constructed between North High Street and the Ohio State Fair Grounds on Chittenden Avenue in 1888. In the early 1890s there were several small independent electric street railway companies operating in the city of Columbus, Ohio. They were all brought together under one management as the Columbus Street Railway Company in 1892. When the electric power company was added the name was changed to the Columbus Railway & Light Company and later changed again to the Columbus Railway, Power & Light Company (CRP&L), then to the Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company (1937). Electric street rail transportation came to an end in Columbus in September 1948."
