Yellow isdiffused and diminished in conspicuity on the first, islocalized and intensified on the last, whereas it is onlymodified in a small degree when associated with shades of amedium depth. 28. Province of Yellow in Woven Fabrics.—Pure yellowis but sparingly used in textile designing. In tweeds andworsteds it is combined, to a limited extent, with othershades in the construction of fancy twists. Thus it is theprincipal colour in the following two- and three-ply yarns:black and yellow; blue and yellow; indigo blue and yellow;dark grey and yellow ; black, purple, and yellow; black,mid grey, and yellow ; and black, red, and yellow. Whenused in this form it frequently adds lustre and fresh-ness to an otherwise sombre style. The arrangement of threads in both warp and weft forsuch a check or plaid, when applied to dress materials, isas appended :— 8 threads of green, 16 )> black, 16 » blue, 4 5> black, 16 >> blue, 16 >> black, 16 5> green, 4 >> yellow, 16 )> green, 16 J> black, 16 >J green, 4 >> yellow, 8 >> green. If the same scheme of shades were utilized in the pro-duction of Scotch modes or shawls, the checks wouldrequire to be considerably enlarged.
