elourwould em))hasizc the predominant color. Only water colors or prints, framed in ivory or pale gold, should hangin this room. The colors in the cretonne may appear in such acces-sories as lamp-shade or pillows, but they should not be permitted tointrude upon the general scheme of green and ivory. Ivory enameled lighting fixtures would be in keeping with thecharacter of the room, as would also matt tiles of light, soft green andfireset of lemon brass. Enameled fin-niture in ivory or delicate green, with decorations ofpale gold or flower sprays adapted from the cretonne, is the typepre-eminently suited to this setting. Wicker chairs with cretonnecushions would harmonize with the charming informality of the whole.Mahogany furniture is permissible, but such furniture will require amore formal treatment of the decorative scheme. This change wouldcall for a wilton rug, ))lain or two-toned; plain-edged cream mar-(juisette curtains; and perhaps an armchair co\ered with green silkdamask. 85
