Representing the U.S. Army, Col. Bill Leady (center), commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, gave tribute to the nearly three thousand lives lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001, during a tenth anniversary vigil at the steps of the California State Capitol in Sacramento, Calif. “Today is a chance to honor those who died that day, and those who’ve died since in defense of our freedoms,” Leady said. “September 11th certainly had a significant impact on my life – and the lives of every man and woman who has since been a member of the U.S. military, including their family members.” The event was hosted by Volunteers in Victim Assistance, a full service center headquartered in Sacramento for victims, witnesses, friends and family members who have experienced a violent crime or trauma.
