Description
English: Colombia 1904 revenue stamps for Cundinamarca related to Colombian Leper Colonies.

In this context in 1904 the Department of Cundinamarca issued a set of cigarette tax revenue stamps. They are inscribed Renta de San Lazaro (San Lazaro income) and Salvemonos de la Lepra (protection against leprosy) clearly indicating the proceeds of the tax would be used to combat leprosy. The first stamp in the set is the only Colombian revenue known to the author to be denominated in milesimos de peso oro, that is thousandths of a gold currency peso or tenths of a centavo. The following is a listing of the issue.

In the following year the lowest value, still in milesimos, was reissued in an altered design without Salvemonos de la Lepra.

This stamp exists in two types. One has a plate scratch running from the left hand 8 to the O of DEPARTAMENTO whilst the other is without the scratch. The scratched plate seems to be commoner. As far as the author is aware these Cundinamarca revenue stamps are the only Colombian ones specifically devoted to raising funds to combat leprosy.[1]
