a, theboundary between which, S. of the Dan-ube, is partly formed by the lower Enns;chief towns, Vienna in Lower, Linz, inUpper, Austria. The surface for themost part is mountainous or hilly, butsinking down to plains on both sides ofthe Danube in the E., the Marchfeld onthe N. of that river, between Vienna andthe March, being remarkably level. The only special agricultural productthat need be mentioned is wine, somechoice kinds being produced on the sunnyslopes of the Wienerwald. The most im-portant mineral product is the salt of theSalzkammergut, the center of which isIschl. As regards other minerals, thechief mining districts are Wels in Upper,St. Polten in Lower, Austria, and theprincipal products, lignite in Upper, andcoal, iron ore, lignite, and graphite inLower, Austria.
