Description
English: Collections of the National Maritime Museum, London
English: Italian armillary sphere, by Joannes Paolo Ferreri, Rome 1624: An armillary sphere is a thre-dimensional model of the Universe used for teaching and sometimes, for calculation. Some, like this one, are Ptolomaic spheres with the Earth at teh centre and teh Sun orbiting round it. Copernican spheres have the Sun at the centre. The outer sphere indicates the location of stars.
