Text Appearing Before Image:
disliked the false heraldry of this coat. In MS. E. D. N. 13.Coll. Arm., and at the subsequent Visitations of 1614 and 1663, I find it blazonedOr, a chevron azure between three garbs gules, and Dr. Plot so blazons it in hisTable XI., dedicated to Sir Walter Wrottesley. Possibly the true blazon should beGules, a chevron counter-componee argent and azure between three garbs or, whichis given by Glover in his Ordinary as the coat of Baron, temp. Edw. IV.; butcolour upon colour was not so very uncommon in the earlier days of Armory. Withregard to the third quartering, wherever it is named it is ascribed to Barrey, and itwould really seem that it was invented by the Heralds for the heiress whom they callby that name. Shaw (ii.3 205) mentions that among the arms formerly in thegallery at Wrottesley was a shield of Wrottesley impaling Per pale or, two barsazure, counterchanged, and under it Sir Walter AVrottesley, son and heir ofHugh, married Jane, daughter and heir of William Barrery, Esq.
