Description
English: An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Colchester derivative, rear hook brooch c.f Mackreth 2011, CD RH 3.c. Plate 40, dating to AD 43 - 65. The spring and pin are missing. At the centre of the hollow cylindrcal wings, where the bow is attached is a rear facing hook, which would have secured the spring pin. The bow is D-shaped in cross section and tapers towards the catchplate. The bow is decorated with a central rib, with diagonal lines projecting from each side across the length of the bow. The integral sub triangular catchplate projects from the rear of the lower bow, it is decorated on one side with an incised line which follows the catchplates shape, it has two circular holes in its centre.
