Title |
Colchester Two Piece Brooch BROOCH |
||
Description |
English: The wings are semi-cylindrical with wing caps. The wing caps have a hole in each which supports the axis bar. Around the axis bar the spring is coiled, however only half of the spring remains. The pin is missing. The wings are decorated with two vertical grooves in the centre of each wing. Between the two grooves are horizontal ribbing. The bow head is hump-like with a loop connecting the centre of the wings with the centre of the bow head edge. Through this loop is a fragment of wire. The bow head is decorated with a vertical central ridge which diminishes and disappears at the top of the bow. The bow is semi-circular in section and is undecorated. The lower section of the bow is sub-rectangular in section with the narrow edge forming the face of the bow. The bow is a 'J' shape and is slightly twisted. The length of the bow seems to be disproportionate to the size of the small bow head. The catchplate no longer exists. The brooch has a light green coloured patina. |
