English: Colchester Stop Line. This is no ordinary 718254 it was part of the Eastern Command Line a series of pillboxes, gun emplacements, tank traps and natural defences such as rivers designed to slow an advancing army during WW2. The gun position would have been manned by Home Guard forces. It gave a good field of fire to defend East Bridge. The Gothic building in the background is 718283 |
