Title
Coin hoard addenda (August 2013)
Description
English: All the coins are a mixture of first and second century AD copper alloy denominations known as sestertii, dupondii and asses (1 sestertius = 2 dupondii and 1 dupondius = 2 asses).and are mostly worn in appearance. The first eleven coins were found in May 2010 and an addendum of six more in May 2013. These six, coming in after the original group had gone through the Treasure process, are marked with an asterisk in the catalogue. The group stretches from the late first century AD (a worn coin of the Emperor Domitian) to the late Severan dynasty (a sestertius of Severus Alexander of AD227). Wear patterns are generally consistent with the coins having come from the same hoard.

The group can be summarised as follows:

Metal Content and Age The coins satisfy the terms of the Treasure Act with regard to age and quantity, being base metal coins over than 300 years old and more than ten pieces. Of the same find? The composition of issues and their relative degrees of circulation wear fit well with that which might be expected for a small hoard of Roman coins of mixed low denominations deposited late in the second century AD. Recommendation I conclude that these eleven coins constitute a prima facie case of treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act (1996).
