Title
Coin
Description
English: George II shilling, 1727-60, unusually with contemporary counter marks on the centre of the reverse, a cross, the number 9, a D and a possible 4 are visible. A four shillings and nine pence couter mark was used in this period on foreign dollars. It may be that someone counter marked this shilling to try and increase its value from one shilling to four shillings and nine pence, no parallel could be found for this but is a possible explanantion for the presence of counter marking on this shilling.
