Description
English: Historical Map of Coesfeld and the citadel Ludgerusburg in Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany. The citadel was build and destroyed in the 17th Century.
Deutsch: Die abgebildete Karte aus dem 17. Jahrhundert zeigt die Stadt Coesfeld und die ab 1654 vor ihren Toren errichtete Zitadelle Ludgerusburg. Fürstbischof Christoph Bernhard von Galen erwählte Coesfeld zu seiner Residenzstadt, da er mit Münster im Streit lag. Peter Pictorius der Ältere wirkte bei den Arbeiten maßgeblich mit. Nach dem Tod des zweiten Nachfolgers von Galens im Amt des Fürstbischofs, noch während der Sedisvakanz, ließ das Domkapitel Münster die Anlage 1688 schleifen. Nur wenige Überreste, darunter die Ruine des Torhauses und ein Tonnengewölbe sowie ein Ravelin haben sich bis in unsere Zeit erhalten. Die Karte befindet sich im preußischen Kulturbesitz, vgl. Internet-Portal „Westfälische Geschichte“ des Landschaftsverbandes Westfalen-Lippe.
