Arma: interzato in fascia: nel 1° di rosso alla stella (8) d'oro, nel 2° d'oro all'aquila di nero, nel 3° di rosso alle due colonne d'Ercole d'oro. Lo scudo, accollato a una croce d'oro, posta in palo, e' timbrato da un cappello con cordoni e nappe di verde. Le nappe, in numero di dodici sono disposte sei per parte, in tre ordini di 1, 2, 3. Sotto lo scudo una lista d'oro con il motto di nero IN MANUS TUAS.

Esegesi: la stella di oro in alto, posta sul tutto, indica la fede in Dio, che orienta e dirige l'azione del Vescovo in tutta la sua attività pastorale e caritativa, rappresentata dal campo di rosso. L'aquila vuole ricordare sia il simbolo dell'evangelista San Giovanni, di cui il Vescovo porta il nome, sia la città e la diocesi dell'Aquila, nella cui regione ha avuto origini il Vescovo; sia il campo della pastorale diocesana alla quale l'ha destinato il Papa. Le colonne d'Ercole vogliono essere un chiaro riferimento al cognome di famiglia, ed anche la rappresentazione di una forte barriera del bene contro il male.
