Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Coastal quarrying The production of blocks of Carboniferous Limestone from the cliffs was particularly easy in this area. The natural jointing of the rock and the ease of detachment from the underlying pebble-conglomerate allowed large, regular-shaped blocks to be produced with little effort or expensive explosives. These blocks still lie where they were produced. In the background can be seen the irregular surface of the conglomerate and the artificial cliff line marking the limit of working. It is also possible to detect a notch eroded at the base of the cliff, which is a band of shale defining the top of this bed of limestone.
