Summary
[edit]DescriptionCoastal erosion and lost industry - Labrador Bay - geograph.org.uk - 627579.jpg |
English: Coastal erosion and lost industry - Labrador Bay Until 1938, there was holiday accommodation and tearooms perched halfway down this cliff. It was accessed from the sea by boat which used a concrete quay for landing. From the land there was a tortuous path and a funicular railed truck for delivery of goods. The building was burned down in 1938 and nature has taken over so that the trees and shrubs have covered over any remains of the building and the sea and landslips have destroyed the concrete quay. Many years ago, the area was reputed to be a haunt of smugglers so it's no wonder that when the original building in this location was used as an inn, it was called the "Smugglers' Arms". |
