TOM C. GRANT To Whom a Testimonial Dinner Was Given by SanFrancisco Fire Underwriters. One of the successful graduates of the Firemans Fund Insurance Companyshead office in San Francisco is Tom C. Grant, who recently closed a third ofa centurys work in the service of the North British & Mercantile InsuranceCompanys Pacific Coast department as general agent. Mr. Grant is anative of Massachusetts, and came to California in 1861. His insurancecareer began three years later. He has been in the harness for forty-four years. He has been a very successful underwriter, and the lossratio on business written by his general agency is among the very lowestin this country. Mr. Grant recently resigned his position, and his asso-ciates tendered him a testimonial banquet and presented him with a beau-tiful vase. The Coast Review 155 The Tom C. Grant Dinner The dinner tendered to Tom C. Grantby his friends and associates took placeat the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco,on Saturday evening, December 28,1907, at 6.30 oclock. Over fifty guestssat down at the round tables, whichwere beautifully decorated with Amer-ican Beauty roses. The dinner wasgiven in the large ballroom of the Fair-mont Hotel. Mr. Chas. D. Haven, President of theBDard of Fire Underwriters, acted astoastmaster. Speeches were made byMr. Haven, Mr. Geo. W. Spencer, Mr.William J. Dutton, Mr. William Mac-donald, Mr. Russell Osborn, Mr.WilliamSexton, Mr. James Wyper, Mr. W. H.Lowden, Mr. Rolla V. Watt, and Mr.Frank J. Devlin. Mr. Whitney Palache sang BrownOctober Ale, to the delight of thosepresent. Letters and telegrams were read,from Messrs. Rudolph Herold, OthoHall, J. G. W. Cofran and J. H.Lenehan.
