Description Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Backman, a machinery technician with U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle, writes out his report during a safety inspection near Seattle May 26, 2013. Backman, along with the other members of Station Seattle, increased their presence on the waterways over Memorial Day weekend to conduct safety checks to ensure the public was boating safely as well as to make sure local boaters had all required safety equipment.
