English: A Marine Corps Color Guard displays the colors during the national anthem while (behind team, left to right) Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Hoyt S. Herron, Coast Guard Cmdr. Adrian L. West and Navy Lt. Douglas Holmes salute the flag at the retirement ceremony in honor of Senior Chief Petty Officer Herron, June 4. Herron gave over 20 years of honorable service in both the Marine Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard. He is deployed to Joint Task Force Guantanamo with Maritime Safety and Security Team 91104 from Galveston, Texas, to perform maritime anti-terrorism and force protection duties. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations. |
