Description
English: Chief Warrant Officer James Bride and Lt. j.g. Stephanie Bugyis, officers of the deck aboard Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star, discuss the safest way through an ice field while transiting toward the Antarctic Chieftan, a fishing vessel beset by ice near Cape Burks, Antarctica. Feb. 13, 2015. Polar Star's crew was asked to provide assistance to Antarctic Chieftan's crew after the vessel was disabled by ice. Polar Star's crew has been underway in Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze 2015, part of the U.S. Antarctic Program, managed by the National Science Foundation.
