Description
English: Ensign Cyrus Unvala, marine science officer aboard Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star, checks weather data and ice coverage while the ship transits the Southern Ocean toward the disabled fishing vessel Antarctic Chieftan, Feb. 13, 2015. Polar Star's crew is en route to the position of the Antarctic Chieftan to assist the vessel beset by ice. Polar Star's crew has been underway in Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze 2015, part of the U.S. Antarctic Program, managed by the National Science Foundation.
