English: Australian Army Bdr. Michael Krek, Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) joint fires team commander, observes a target area from an observation post with other RAA service members during a fire support exercise as part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise 2014. Service members of the U.S. Marines, Australian Army, New Zealand Army and the Canadian Army, worked together during the exercise to coordinate aerial and mortar attacks during the scenario. Twenty-two nations, 49 ships, six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 26 to Aug. 1 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Christopher Hubenthal/Released) |
