| Description |
English: Coal Workings, Danby Head A former bell pit probably for coal extraction in the eighteenth century. A vertical shaft would have been dug until the coal seam was hit which was then extracted undercutting the sides as far as possible before collapsing. The pit was then closed and a new one opened a few metres away. |
