Summary
[edit]DescriptionClovis Dwarf Geyser (10 August 2013) 2.jpg |
English: Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is in Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin (northwestern Wyoming, USA).
The Dwarfs are a cluster of small vents in the western Geyser Hill Group of Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. Shown here is a low active vent that often displays purplish-gray staining. It is located near the modern tourist boardwalk and has been called “North Dwarf Geyser” by most observers. That name was inappropriately attached to this feature - it originally applied to an oft-perpetual spouter nearby. The replacement nickname “Clovis Dwarf Geyser” was coined by Micah Kipple in 2017, in reference to its proximity to Arrowhead Spring. It acts as a low to very low, near-perpetual spouter and has occasional higher, but still moderately low, eruptions. In fall 2017 to 2018, the vent was observed erupting up to about 2 meters high. Location: 44° 27' 47.85" North, 110° 49' 50.66" West (The Dwarfs, Geyser Hill Group, Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano, northwestern Wyoming, USA) |
