[edit]DescriptionClouds over the Carolinas (12 June 2012) 7 (49602177232).jpg |
Despite the existence of cloud classifications, identifying cloud types seems, to me, more of an art form - I've noticed that subjectivity plays a role. Considering highly variable cloud shapes, many will not fit exactly into a preconceived "category". For example, I've been told that a cloud releasing precipitation is not a nimbus cloud, even though that's the definition of a nimbus cloud. I'll give it a try, however - the examples seen here from an airplane over the Carolinas appear consistent with stratocumulus clouds. |
