On April 7, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a stunning true-color image of clouds over the central Pacific Ocean.

Description
English: On April 7, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a stunning true-color image of clouds over the central Pacific Ocean. Streaks of wind-blown low-level clouds fan out across the Kiribati Islands as banks of high-level clouds lie in the north, west, and south. In some areas the wisps of high-level clouds can be seen to clearly hover over the lower clouds. Many of the atolls and islands of Kiribati can be seen in jewel-toned colors near the center of the image. The shiny area in the west of the image is sun-glint, an optical effect caused by the mirror-like reflection of sunlight off the water surface directly back at the satellite sensor.
