Summary
[edit]DescriptionClose wing resting position of Lethe sp. Woodbrown butterfly WLB MG 9758.jpg |
English: This specimen could be identified as Lethe nicetella de Nicéville, 1887 - Small Woodbrown which is one of the rarest butterfly in India so far by way of the accurate under wing details n markings as per the testified scientific literature of the same. Very very few photographic records are there of L. nicetella from India.Scientific records are there of the occurrence of this species from Darjeeling District in 1988 . The present specimen in question is also photographed from Darjeeling district. Hence it could be a great re-occurrence of this species from West Bengal ,India. But it shall have to be kept in mind that there is a dry season from of Lethe sidonis (Hewitson, 1863) - Common Woodbrown which truly and identically resembles L.nicetella if only the under wing side of the both is concerned . Hence, if we could photo documented the upper wing of the specimen in question (which was just seen for a few seconds, then eloped and not at all found on following days), then we could surly identify the specimen as L.nicetella or L. sidonis. But the uploading of this specimen flares up the most possible prospect of urgent future vivid exploration of hotspots of Darjeeling district , West Bengal ,India with a hope of re-occurrence and rediscovery of one of the rarest butterfly L.nitella from West Bengal as well as India. |
