Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A close-up shot of the commemorative plaque for The Rockery in Rockway Gardens, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The plaque reads:

"The Rockery In 1930, The Rockery was built by local relief workers during the Great Depression. Two thousand tons of limestone rocks were shipped from Sheffield, Ontario and unloaded from the electric train tracks that once ran beside King Street. The design mirrors Canada's geography from Newfoundland to British Columbia. One cascade, with five pods, represents The Great Lakes and another cascade represents Winnipeg, Great Bear, and Great Slave Lakes. Once the rocks were in place and the gardens developed, this eastern entrance to Kitchener became known as Rockway. The rocks and the design of The Rockery are unique to Kitchener, as there are no other similar rock formations in the area. The Rockery is listed as a Cultural Heritage Landscape.
