Description
English:
Close-up of a specimen of snow plant, ca.1920
Photograph of a close-up of a specimen of snow plant, ca.1920. The plant, growing in an area covered in snow, has hanging flowers and a thick stem.; "The Snow Plant is a Saprophytic herb which blooms in May-July from Baja California north to Oregon and east to Nevada in the high Coniferous forests above 4,000'. It is a member of the huckleberry and blueberry family but it lacks chlorophyll. It secures its food from decaying organic matter in the soil. It is a beautiful treasure to find. Stalks are edible when cooked like asparagus; however this plant is rare and is protected by law." -- unknown author.
